The couturier Hubert de Givenchy passed away on 10 March at the age of 91. His boyfriend Philippe Venet communicated the news who was living with him in a castle at the doors of Paris. Let us pay tribute to the representant of the Parisian elegance above all.
We learnt with sadness the loss of one of the inventors of the Haute Couture, one of the main characters of the elegance who has mainly contributed to expand in the world the ideal of the “style à la française”. Hubert de Givenchy has been among the first couturiers to define the concept of prèt-à- porter of luxe and to create the image of a desinvolte woman with sinuous silhouettes and elegant in an absolute way.
The fashion house that bears his name opened in 1952 in Paris and from the first collection it was clear to everyone that the young marquese (son of the marquis de Givenchy) will be protagonist of the evolution of the global fashion that had already started by Dior and Balenciaga during the years of his excellent formation. Not being tuned with the fashion industry anymore, he decided to retire in 1995 with the only regret to don’t have a disciple to whom he could transmit his art.
His muse and friend Audrey Hepburn played during his whole life, both on the big screen and in the private sphere, the Givenchy woman; together they contributed to the creation a solid esthetic heritage representative of the real essence of the creative “estro” of the ”aristocratic of the fashion”: good taste.
